I grew up thinking that being a Christian was about having the right answers, but I’ve come to believe that following Christ is actually more about asking the right questions. Questions about why some people don’t have access to clean drinking water? Or why others don’t have the opportunity for an education? Or why some have difficulty knowing and experiencing the fullness God’s Love? I’m learning that these questions are deeply connected and we can’t address one without addressing the other. I’ve come to believe that God is passionate about healing and providing for the whole person.
My first trip to Guatemala, 4 years ago, helped me start this process of asking questions and it is what has led me back for the year to come. I’m excited to partner with Mission Impact because they have a holistic ministry approach that addresses the physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual needs of people. I will spend most of my time serving at La Escuela Vida y Ezperanza, where I will be working alongside teachers, offering support to them in their classrooms and helping teach groups of kids. I will also assist in the MI office doing some writing, translating and photography. I am looking forward to learning from and with the people of Guatemala.
